Which? response to ASA's call for clarity around household waste claims
Sue Davies, Which? Head of Consumer Protection Policy, said:
“We know that consumers want to lead more sustainable lives and it's important that they are not let down by products that fail to live up to their “green” credentials. Which? supports the ASA's call for clarity around household waste terms. Businesses must put a stop to greenwashing so that people can trust the information they see and make informed choices about the products they buy.
"The Competition and Markets Authority, which is currently investigating "green" claims made about household essentials, must be prepared to take enforcement action to tackle this problem if businesses don't comply with the law. The government also needs to make sure the law is strengthened to prevent companies from making misleading environmental claims, as part of its forthcoming reforms to consumer law.”
