Which? response to predicted cheaper energy bills
Rocio Concha, Which? Director of Policy and Advocacy, said:
"Cornwall Insight's prediction that from July, the energy price cap will fall to £2,063 a year for an average household is positive, but many will understandably be confused about what exactly this means for them and their energy bills.
"For the first time since October, consumers' energy bills will be set by Ofgem's energy price cap rather than the government's energy price guarantee, as the price cap will be lower than the price guarantee. While July's predicted bills for an average household show a significant drop of about £500, energy bills of £2,000 a year will still be unaffordable for those struggling to make ends meet.
“If you are concerned about struggling to pay higher bills, there is help available. Speak to your energy provider about a payment plan you can afford and check to see if you qualify for any government schemes."
