Which? warns of ads for fake driving licences on Facebook and Instagram

Lisa Webb, Which? Consumer Law Expert, said:

"It's shocking that Which? found Facebook and Instagram hosting dodgy ads claiming to sell UK driving licences for as much as £600, without the need for tests.

"Consumers trying to renew a licence or book a driving test should make sure they are using the official gov.uk website. If you come across a scam group, page or profile on Facebook or Instagram, select the three dots on the right-hand side of the page and click ‘report’."If you fall victim to a scam, call your bank immediately using the number on the back of your bank card and report it to Action Fraud or call the police on 101 if you’re in Scotland.

“More broadly, adverts such as these show why the Online Safety Act is so important. Ofcom must now develop codes of practice that will hold platforms to a high standard and be prepared to take strong enforcement action, including fines, against firms if they break the law."
