Which? welcomes government action to shutdown search engine loophole in the Online Safety Bill
1 min read
Rocio Concha, Which? Director of Policy and Advocacy, said: "Which? warned about a loophole in the Online Safety Bill that could have seen search engines like Google let off the hook for hosting fraudulent paid-for advertising and given criminals an incentive to shift their activities to those platforms, so it is good to see action being taken by the government. "The government must also now ensure that Ofcom has the information it needs to adequately tackle fraudulent advertising by requiring platforms to include fraudulent adverts in their risk assessments and transparency reports. It is also crucial that the regulator has enough resources to enforce the Bill's provisions before it is passed into law."
