Why now is the best time to book your Christmas break

We’ve crunched the data for thousands of flights to reveal the best time to pick up a bargain ticket

The summer holidays may feel far behind us, but if you’re longing for an overseas adventure, now is the perfect time to start thinking about your Yuletide break.

Despite the value of the pound fluctuating due to Brexit uncertainty, tomorrow is the best time to lock in a cheap price for your Christmas flights – according to two years of skyscanner data.

Whether you have your eye on a short hop over to Europe for the Christmas markets or crave some winter sun on a far-flung beach, booking three months in advance could see you enjoy airfares that are typically 10% cheaper than at any other time.

Crunching the numbers

Flight prices change based on demand, so it’s impossible to give a definitive answer on how far in advance you should book to always get the cheapest fare.

But by analysing two years of flight-booking data from Skyscanner and looking at the cost of return economy flights from UK destinations worldwide, we can make an informed estimate.
