Which? welcomes the opportunity to respond to the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero’s (DESNZ) consultation on regulating Third-Party Intermediaries (TPIs) within the retail energy market. Our response focuses on TPIs serving domestic customers. We support DESNZ’s efforts to establish a regulatory framework that promotes consumer protection, transparency and trust while fostering innovation within the energy sector. The most important areas the framework should cover are mandatory transparency requirements, robust protections against mis-selling, strengthened support for vulnerable consumers and standardised dispute resolution processes. Implementing these measures is critical to ensuring a fair, consumer-focused energy market that can empower consumers to make informed choices, manage their energy usage effectively and trust the TPIs they engage with.
