Which? responds to news that dangerous travel adaptors are being sold to UK consumers

Sue Davies, Which? Head of Consumer Protection Policy, said:

“Badly designed electricals can have life-altering - even fatal - consequences. It’s appalling that online marketplaces continue to fail to prevent dangerous products from reaching consumers, despite countless warnings.

“These sites claim that safety is a priority, but Which? investigations have exposed time and again their failure to prevent dangerous products from reaching UK consumers through their sellers. We believe that sites like Amazon will not clean up their act until they are compelled by law to take greater responsibility.

“The government must urgently use the new powers it has under the Product Regulation and Metrology Act to update product safety legislation and impose a clear legal duty on online marketplaces for ensuring the safety of products sold through their third-party sellers, with tough enforcement for those that fall short.”
