Which? responds to recall of Smyths product contaminated with asbestos

1 min read

Sue Davies, Which? Head of Consumer Protection Policy, said:

“It’s deeply alarming that yet another children’s product has been recalled due to potential asbestos contamination, particularly coming from a household name like Smyths.

“This is just the latest in a worrying trend of recalls involving this deadly substance, which raises serious questions about the effectiveness of product safety checks that should have prevented these products from ever reaching consumers.

“The Office for Product Safety and Standards must put a stop to this by ensuring that proper checks are being carried out to keep dangerous products off the shelves. It should also ensure effective oversight of online marketplaces, where safety checks are much weaker."
