Which? responds to reports of asbestos contamination in toys sold on Amazon

Sue Davies, Head of Consumer Rights Policy at Which?, said:

“It is shocking that Amazon allowed products to be sold that could expose children to asbestos. Toys and craft kits shouldn’t be a source of health concerns and proper checks are needed to ensure they comply with safety laws.

“Our investigations have shown countless times that there is far too little regulation for platforms like Amazon. Lives will be at risk, including those of children and infants, until online marketplaces are forced to clean up their act.

“The government must urgently use the new powers it has under the Product Regulation and Metrology Act to update product safety legislation and impose a clear legal duty on online marketplaces for ensuring the safety of products sold through their third-party sellers, with tough enforcement for those that fall short.”
