Which? responds to the news that Ofcom has fined Shell Energy Broadband £1.4m for not telling customers their contracts were up

Rocio Concha, Which? Director of Policy and Advocacy, said:

"It's absolutely right that Ofcom has taken action against Shell Energy Broadband for failing to tell consumers their contract is up and that overcharged customers have been compensated.

"Our research previously found broadband customers who were out of contract saved an average of £92 a year by switching away or £43 a year by haggling with their provider. We'd advise anyone who is out of contract to consider haggling with their provider or switching to a cheaper deal.

"Which? is also calling on Ofcom to take action to ban Shell Energy and other broadband providers from baking unpredictable mid-contract price hikes into customer contracts."
