Best portable air conditioner deals for July 2025

Our pick: Homcom 9000 BTU

*Average price in the past six months: £228. Cheapest price in the past six months: £179

Homcom 9000 BTU
  • Weighs 22.4kg
  • Dimensions (H x W x D) 69.5 x 31.6 x 31.6cm
  • 9,000 BTU

We like: Easy to install and move around

We don't like: No smartphone connectivity

If you don’t want to spend too much, this air conditioner is currently available for around the £230 mark (when retailers have it in stock), although you might catch it for a bit less at Robert Dyas and Wilco.

It comes with a kit to cover the gap where you place the window nozzle to prevent more warm air coming into the room. Overall, installation is straightforward too. The instructions are clear and comprehensive, and the remote control is good.

Discover whether the Homcom 9000 BTU is both cheap and cheerful.

AEG Comfort 6000 AXP26U339CW

*Average price in the past six months: £500. Cheapest price in the past six months: £430

AEG Comfort 6000 AXP26U339CW
  • Weighs 31kg
  • Dimensions (H x W x D)  70.3 x 39 x 48cm
  • 9,000 BTU

We like: Cold air is distributed evenly

We don't like: No remote control so you’ll need the AEG app

If buying an air conditioner seems like a big expense for the five or so days a year that you'll need it, the good news is that this one is also a dehumidifier. Its functions include three fan speeds, a digital display, wheels, a 24-hour timer, smartphone connectivity and a hose with window nozzle that can reach a maximum length of 168.3cm.

On the downside, you have to pay extra for a window-sealing kit. It’s not essential, and we tested it without one, but these kits do stop warm air coming back in through the window you place the nozzle through..

Our full AEG Comfort 6000 AXP26U339CW review  reveals if its quiet as well as reasonably priced.

Available for £430 from airconcentre or John Lewis, or from these stockists.

DeLonghi Pinguino Compact PAC ES72 Classic

*Average price in the past six months: £414. Cheapest price in the past six months: £359

DeLonghi Pinguino Compact PAC ES72 Classic
  • Weighs 21.5kg
  • Dimensions (H x W x D) 68.7 x 29 x 36.3cm
  • 8,300 BTU

We like: Simple controls

We don't like: No supplied window-sealing kit

This DeLonghi is a relatively nimble number, being 10kg lighter than the heaviest portable air-con units we've seen. That makes it pretty easy to move around, too.

On the downside, there’s no window-sealing kit supplied, although you will need sliding or sash windows to use this model anyway.

Discover whether the DeLonghi Pinguino Compact PAC ES72 Classic is worth the money.

Currently on sale for £399 at Currys or £400 at Argos (although it is out of stock for delivery so you'll need to check if it is available to collect near you), or from these stockists.

Best electric fan deals for July 2025

Our Pick:  Meaco Fan Sefte 10" Pedestal Air Circulator

*Average price in the past six months: £175. Cheapest price in the past six months: £159

Meaco Fan Sefte 10" Pedestal Air Circulator
  • Weighs 54kg
  • Dimensions (W x D x H) 34 x 34 x 110cm
  • 12 speed settings

We like: One of the widest wind-speed ranges we've encountered

We don't like: Can't easily change the height of the fan

With its wide range of speeds, horizontal and vertical oscillation, programmable timer and an eco mode that changes speed according to your room's temperature, this Meaco Pedestal fan gives you plenty of flexibility.

The stem of the pedestal comes in sections that you screw together. This makes it hard to change the height quickly, but unless you plan to do this often, it's not much of a drawback.

Fans are in high demand right now, but if you're quick you can catch this on sale at airconcentre.

How to spot a good deal on a portable air conditioner or electric fan

Sam Morris picture

Sam Morris, Which? home cooling expert, says:

  • Make sure the deal is genuine. We check the deal price against the average and cheapest prices in the last six months, so you can be confident the deals we highlight on this page are decent. If you spot something we haven’t featured, sites like Price Runner and camelcamelcamel (for Amazon) can give you a sense of what price the model has been at recently.
  • Don’t be sucked into getting an air conditioner that’s too large or powerful for your room just because it’s on offer. An air con’s output is measured in British Thermal Units (BTU). The BTU can help you calculate what size unit you’ll need. All you have to do is multiply the dimensions (in feet) of your room by five and you’ll get an idea. So if your room measures 15 feet x 10 feet x 8 feet, calculating 15 x 10 x 8 x 5 gives you 6,000 - so this is the BTU you’ll need from your portable air conditioner.
  • If you’re concerned about a portable air conditioner's running costs, look for one with a good energy efficiency ratio (EER). This is the ratio between an air conditioner's BTU and its power input (in watts). Generally, the higher the EER rating, the more efficient it is, and the lower your electricity bills will be.
