A modern bedroom

Fitted bedroom furniture is a great way to maximise and organise your storage space – but it's also a big investment.

That’s why we asked 2,796 Which? members and members of the public to rate their fitted bedroom furniture. Our unique survey put some of Britain's favourite brands to the test, including Hammonds, Ikea and Wickes.

We also delved into the nitty-gritty of furniture buying. We asked our members to share any issues they've had with the delivery, installation or durability of their product.

Our results reveal the highest-quality, longest-lasting fitted bedroom furniture brands, so you can shop with confidence.

No rating is provided for Wren, as the brand only started selling fitted bedroom furniture in 2023.

Across the companies, on average, 38% of survey respondents reported that their furniture had signs of damage or wear and tear – scores ranged from just 19% to 55%.

Most of our respondents (86%) waited less than two months for their furniture.

However, customers from one brand reported waiting more than three months.

In addition, an average of 17% of respondents said they'd had issues with their delivery. The most common problems were the brand repeatedly rescheduling the date (5%), parts arriving damaged (5%) and missing parts (4%).

Independent fitted wardrobe companies

Sharps fitted bedroom wardrobe storage

As well as surveying people who bought fitted wardrobes from large brands, we also spoke to people who purchased their wardrobes from independent companies. Then we averaged the scores to assess the typical service provided by these traders.

Note that these scores don't reflect the performance of any individual company – that's why we don't include them in our tables.

Overall, independent companies were given a customer score of 87%.

They received five stars for build quality, finish quality, durability and value for money.

The top scoring-brand received 77%.

Customers of independent companies were also least likely to report that their furniture had signs of damage or that they had issues with installation.

Our total sample size for independent companies was 535. Sample size for durability was 315, and sample size for installation was 226.

Which is best - Hammonds or Sharps?

Hammonds and Sharps offer similar ranges, including wardrobes designed to maximise space (Hammonds SpaceMax and Sharps Space+).

We're unable to access price information for either company because they make bespoke furniture. However, Hammonds does offer a price-match guarantee on like-for-like products.

One difference is that Sharps offers a longer guarantee: 15 years, compared with Hammonds' 10 years.
