The Canary Islands provide guaranteed good weather for millions of winter sunseekers, but there’s no need to follow the crowd to the concrete, money-making mega-resorts.
Which? readers rated resort towns in the Canary Islands for peace and quiet, and we’ve marked the busiest on each of the major islands on the map below.
Only two popular holiday resorts in the Canary Islands gained a five-star rating for peace and quiet. Read the Best Canary Islands and Resorts to find out where they are.
Tenerife’s busiest resorts
While you’ll find Tenerife’s top temperatures on the island’s south-western tip, you’ll also find a costa del concrete of all-you-can-eat buffets and booming nightclubs.
Playa de las Americas was rated just two out of five stars for peace and quiet, while neighbouring beach towns Los Cristianos and Costa Adeje only fared slightly better with a mediocre three-star rating.
The full results of our survey found three alternative holiday destinations that gained four or five-star peace-and-quiet ratings.
Less-visited Lanzarote and Fuerteventura
Although Gran Canaria’s most popular holiday resort has a more upmarket feel than parts of Tenerife, Playa del Ingles is undeniably busy in season, hence its two-star rating for peace and quiet.
Lanzarote and Fuerteventura receive less than half the visitors that flock to Tenerife, so its perhaps no surprise that the survey found its resorts to be less congested.
Nevertheless both Corralejo (Fuerteventura) and Puerto del Carmen (Lanzarote) scored an average three stars peace and quiet rating.
