Datasets from surveys of private rented sector tenants and landlords

This quantitative research helped in our assessment of how well the sector is functioning, to understand the challenges faced by both tenants and landlords, and to identify where improvements are needed. The three surveys were conducted amongst:

• 856 tenants who had searched for and moved in to a property in the sector in the last 2 years (“Searching, Securing and Moving”).
• 1749 tenants who currently live in a private rented property (“Living Conditions, Repairs and Redress“).
• 898 individuals who currently own and let out one or more domestic properties (‘Landlords’).

The surveys of tenants covered their experience across the whole consumer journey, from moving out, searching for a new property and moving in, as well as the lived experience of being a tenant in a rental property. The survey of landlords examined knowledge of their responsibilities, experience with using letting agents and their attitudes towards tenants. All three surveys were carried out online by Populus, on behalf of Which?.
