Swann burglar alarms review

Before forking out on a Swann home security system, find out what its customers think of its alarm systems.
Liz Ransome-Croker

We've asked thousands of alarm owners to rate the burglar alarm brand they used, and have results for 12 companies, including Swann, Honeywell, Yale and ADT.

The company in first place got a high customer score of 73%, while the brand in last place got 59%.

To calculate our scores, we asked people how satisfied they are with the brand and whether they would recommend it. We also asked people to rate specific elements, such as ease of use and value for money, on a scale from very poor to excellent. From these results, we're able to give each brand a star rating out of five for these aspects of the service.

Wireless and smart alarm systems

Swann's alarm system, called the Home Alarm & Smart Security, is both wireless and smart. You can buy it as a starter kit, which comprises a smart hub (that connects all the elements together), two motion sensors, a window/door sensor, a smart plug (for turning lamps or appliances on and off) and a keyfob to set the alarm. Alternatively, you can buy the individual elements on their own.

The hub can be paired with other devices, such as wireless cameras (more details below), to extend your security system to suit your home.

As with any smart system, it can be monitored and controlled from your phone using an app. To find out more about smart security systems visit our dedicated guide.

Wired and wireless security cameras

Swann has a number of wireless and wired cameras. They come either as CCTV sets – some with as many as eight cameras – or individually. Some have night vision and thermal sensors.

Many also have a two-way connection to your smartphone app, so that you can talk through them – whether that's to give instructions to a delivery person or scare off an intruder.

Other home security

Some of Swann's cameras do other jobs as well. One doubles up as a floodlight, alerting you to movement outside of your property.

A number of its doorbells and driveway alerts also include cameras, so that you can see who is at your home from the comfort of the sofa.
