In addition, we have asked how satisfied people were with ADT and whether they would recommend the brand to a friend, to give us an overall customer score.

ADT home security

ADT products are only available from ADT and must be installed by ADT (including its smart options – see below); there are no DIY options.

ADT monitored alarm systems

ADT offers three levels of service:

  • Keyholder response: Involves ADT monitoring your alarm and calling you or nominated friends/family if the alarm is triggered.
  • Police response: With this package ADT calls the police as well as your keyholders if the alarm goes off.
  • Private security response: Here, a private security guard will visit your home if the alarm is triggered. Depending on the contract, the guard will either do an internal check of the property, or also go inside as part of the 'keyholder' plan.

Wireless alarm systems

All ADT alarm systems are wireless, where the different components connect wirelessly.

It also offers keyfobs/tags (pictured below), which allow you to set and deactivate your alarm using a key, rather than a number.

ADT offers smart alarms, which you can control and monitor from your mobile phone or tablet. These also come with a monitoring contract.

You can buy smart alarms from other companies that don't have monitoring contracts. This means you can monitor the alarm yourself for no additional fee, although you may need to pay for data storage.
