GB EnergyGB Energy Supply went bust in 2016 and is now part of Co-operative Energy, which operates the GB Energy brand.
GB Energy Supply has been part of Co-operative Energy since 2016. It currently supplies gas and electricity to around 140,000 homes across Great Britain.
In September 2019, Co-operative Energy announced that Octopus Energy would supply its customers with gas and electricity. This includes GB Energy Supply customers, as they’re part of Co-op Energy. The partnership between the two firms will also see Octopus Energy provide customer service.
GB Energy Supply was established in 2014 and by 2015 its tariff was among the cheapest on the market. But just a year later, it stopped trading. At the time, it said its business was ‘untenable’ and blamed ‘swift and significant increases in energy prices over recent months’ for its failure. Plus it cited its inability, as a small energy company, to bulk-buy energy in advance in order to ‘access the best possible wholesale prices’.
GB Energy Supply’s customers were transferred automatically to Co-operative Energy, which has continued to operate the GB Energy brand.

GB Energy Supply customers: what the Octopus Energy deal means for you
GB Energy Supply customers are becoming customers of Octopus Energy. Once your current tariff ends, you will be moved onto an Octopus Energy tariff.
It will take Octopus Energy a couple of months to transfer you on to its systems and will get in touch when it has.

If GB Energy installed your smart meter, it may not work with Octopus Energy’s systems. This is because the smart meter is a first-generation meter, and these aren’t able to be operated by all suppliers. What is GB Energy's customer score?
GB Energy doesn't have a customer score or star ratings in 2019. We did not receive enough responses from customers in our survey to calculate their ratings.
Last year GB Energy Supply came joint 17th out of 31 energy companies, with high ratings for billing and value for money. Customer comments on customer service were mixed and we didn't receive enough responses to provide a star rating.
But when we put GB Energy Supply's responsiveness to the test in our snapshot investigation into energy companies' customer waiting times, it was speedy to answer the phone. It took just over a minute on average.
It wasn't quite as fast as sister brand Flow Energy (which took 45 seconds on average), but much faster than the 4mins 24secs average across the 36 firms we investigated.

September: Octopus Energy will being supplying GB Energy's customers with gas and electricity, and providing customer service, after Co-operative Energy agreed a partnership.
February: GB Energy’s parent company Co-operative Energy, will raise prices by 10%, or £117 per year, for customers on 1 April.

July: GB Energy Supply announced it will increase the price of its variable tariff, GB Green Pioneer, by 5% on 20 August. Customers will pay £30 more, on average, per year as a result.
