Cooking Christmas dinner can be daunting, but you can avoid turkey terror by choosing the best place to buy your bird.
We surveyed 5,288 members in January 2020 to find out which places they rated the best for Christmas dinner essentials, including turkey, sausages, stuffing and vegetables.
As in previous years, farms, markets and butchers have been rated the best place to buy your Christmas turkey. Members told us they were impressed with both the taste and quality of their turkey centrepieces, scoring them a full five stars.
Top of the supermarkets for turkey was a low-cost retailer that offers outstanding value for money.
Whether swaddling them in bacon for pigs in blankets or frying them up for a Boxing Day breakfast, members loved the bangers they got from their butcher, farm or market.
The winning supermarket for sausages achieved a consistent four stars across the board for taste, quality and value for money.
Butchers, farms and markets impressed members with their high-quality, delicious stuffing.
Of the nine supermarkets rated, the two highest scorers tied neck and neck with 80%. One was a low-cost supermarket and the only place that members thought offered excellent value for money when buying their stuffing.
Our survey results show that those who were the most satisfied with their Christmas veg bought it from a greengrocers, vegetable box scheme, farm or market.
If you’re filling your festive basket at a supermarket, there’s a clear winner at the top of the table offering excellent value for money.
