The term ‘super saloon’ was coined when the original BMW M5 arrived in 1985, complete with a race-car engine. Its sports-car baiting performance and subtle, upmarket appeal quickly saw the M5 become an institution, with each successive generation becoming faster and ever more luxurious. The sixth-generation M5 faced stiff competition from the likes of Mercedes, Porsche and Audi, which offer their own take on the super saloon formula. Find out how it stacks up in our BMW M5 review.
