Recaro Child Safety closes car seats and pushchairs business

Find out where you stand on repairs or refunds if you buy from Recaro

Recaro has announced that it’s closing down the Child Safety division of its company, which manufactures child car seats and strollers.

Business operations for Recaro Child Safety will end on 31 July 2018, but its baby transport products will continue to be sold until 31 December 2018.

Poor sales force closure

Recaro made the decision to close its Child Safety business due to poor sales and an intensely competitive market.

Ralf Kindermann, managing director, said: ‘This was a tough decision to make, but had become unavoidable due to the ongoing loss situation.’

Customer service for your Recaro car seat or stroller

Recaro has said that it will honour warranties until the end of 2019.

Under the Consumer Rights Act, all products must be of satisfactory quality, fit for purpose and as described. You are entitled to a refund if the product develops a fault within the first 30 days of ownership, or for the item to be repaired or replaced within six months if the item is faulty.

However, if you buy a Recaro car seat or stroller that you find still on sale in 2019, depending on where you buy it, from January 2020 you may struggle to make a claim on a faulty product. That’s because there will no longer be a company against whom you can issue a claim if you don’t have a retailer warranty. That’s worth bearing in mind if you’re tempted by a reduced Recaro car seat or stroller you spot next year.

Recaro Child Safety is most widely known for its extensive range of child car seats, although the brand manufactures strollers, too.

We’ve reviewed a number of Recaro child car seats and strollers. Some of the car seats have fared well in our crash tests, but others have done so badly we’ve named them Don’t Buy car seats.

It’s worth checking all our reviews – by following the links below – before you go shopping for a Recaro car seat or stroller.
