Best deals on Pimm’s and how cheaper own-label alternatives compare

Pimm's is a popular summertime drink, but prices can vary by nearly £10 for the same size bottle, so it pays to know how – and where – to get the best value.

Pimm's is frequently on offer for less than the retail price, so it's always worth shopping around as we think you'll almost never need to pay full price, especially over the summer months.

Cheapest place to buy Pimm’s

Pimm's No. 1 Summer Cup comes in 70cl and one-litre bottles.  

At full price, a 70cl bottle of Pimm's typically costs around £16-£18.50 (£22.85 per litre), while the one-litre size typically costs around £22-24.

There are almost always deals on Pimm's, especially during the warmer months. Here are the best prices we've spotted currently:

Best Pimm's offers 

• Pimm's No.1 70cl bottle – £9.99 (£14.30 per litre) at Lidl. It's also on offer for £12 (£17.14 per litre) at Amazon Fresh, £13 (£18.57 per litre) at Tesco (with Clubcard) and £13.50 (£19.29 per litre) at Ocado,  
• Pimm's No.1 1L bottle – £13 on offer at Asda, Amazon and Sainsbury's (with Nectar). This is great value, comparable to the best price you'll find on the 70cl bottle. The typical offer price is often around £16 – currently at Morrisons, Tesco (with Clubcard) and Ocado.

In most cases, buying the bigger bottle will save you money.

Pimm’s vs supermarket own-labels: can you save by switching?

Several supermarkets sell an own-brand alternative (usually called fruit or summer cup), including Aldi, Asda and Tesco. These are almost always cheaper than even the best offer price on Pimm's.

In blind taste tests in previous years, we've found these typically go down pretty well with panel tasters. In fact, some supermarket versions even beat Pimm's on taste.

The choice of own-brand fruit cup drinks available from supermarkets isn't as wide this year, but these ones are available:

• Aldi Austin's Classic Summer Punch, £7.99 for 70cl (£11.41 per litre)
• Asda The Great Summer Cup, £8.50 for 70cl (£12.14 per litre)
• Tesco Summer Cup, £8.50 for 70cl (£12.14 per litre)

How to make the perfect Pimm’s

To prepare a classic Pimm’s Cup (the most renowned Pimm's cocktail), stock up on mint, cucumber, strawberries and oranges – the traditional extras added to the punch – as well as lemonade for the mixer. 

Whether you're making a single serving in a highball glass or a jug to share, it should be prepared with one part booze to three parts lemonade, which means 50ml Pimm's and 150ml lemonade for a single glass (scale this up when making larger quantities).

Pour over ice, then pop in a couple of slices of orange, strawberries and cucumber plus a sprig of mint before giving it a good stir.
