Talkmobile promises ‘no price rises’ in 2024: find out what your provider has planned

Despite regulator Ofcom now set to ban inflation-linked price rises for broadband and mobile customers, many are pressing ahead with the planned increases – but one brand has made the more positive step of cancelling this year's hikes.
Talkmobile has cancelled its planned price rises for 2024 – making it a 'hero' in our book, but many other providers, like BT, have decided to enforce a 7.9% price increase this April.

Should you switch to Talkmobile?
Talkmobile will not be raising prices on monthly plans in 2024, for both new and existing customers. Out of plan charges such as roaming and international rates are excluded. Terms and conditions would have allowed it to push ahead with a 7.9% (CPI +3.9%) price increase, but it is not enforcing the rise.
It’s not the only Sim provider that promises not to hike prices, as others such as Giffgaff, Smarty and Lebara do not use mid-contract price increases.
This is in stark contrast to many other broadband and mobile providers, such as BT, EE and Plusnet, who are forcing another price rise on consumers before the practice is banned by Ofcom.
Talkmobile already offers cheap Sim-only deals, from £6.95 a month for 6GB of data, to £11.95 a month for 120GB of data, so this is excellent news for current customers, and anyone looking for a cheaper deal. Heroes and zeros of broadband and mobile revealed
Which? has been calling for telecoms providers to end the practice of mid-contract price rises, where broadband and mobile contracts increase in price each year by more than inflation.
Telecoms regulator Ofcom has announced plans to ban these and instead have yearly increases shown clearly in pounds and pence at the start of a contract, but many providers are continuing with increases this April.
Our graphic below shows which providers are heroes, not doing mid-contract price rises, and which are zeros, who are forcing up consumers costs:

Rocio Concha, Which? Director of Policy and Advocacy, said: 'It's good that Talkmobile has broken ranks with the rest of the pack, showing that telecoms providers' hands aren't tied and that they can do right by their customers by scrapping inflation-busting price hikes in April 2024.
'This decision lays down a marker for Vodafone, Talkmobile’s owner, and other providers which have the power to follow suit and cancel price hikes for millions of customers and protect them from nearly eight per cent rises this spring, after many people were already inflicted with more than 14 per cent increases last year.
'Ofcom has proposed calling time on inflation-linked price hikes, saying they can cause substantial consumer harm. Telecoms firms must immediately cancel above inflation price increases in April 2024 rather than cashing in one last time at the expense of their customers.'
