Choosing the best coffee machine brand
If you want a coffee machine that lasts, look for a brand that is generally reliable, but also has some good coffee machines to its name.
As the graph below shows, the brand you choose can make a big difference to whether your coffee machine lasts the distance. 88% of machines from the best coffee machine brand remain fault free for at least six years, compared to 78% for the least reliable coffee machine brand.
Coffee machines are generally a little less reliable than other small appliances such as toasters and irons. Choosing from one of the brands with a higher reliability score will increase your chances of getting a long-lasting machine.
Common coffee machine and how to fix them
We asked coffee machine owners to tell us what problems they had experienced with their coffee machines. Below you can see the most common faults that crop up:

Tips for preventing coffee machine problems
It's a bore, but following the manufacturer's recommendations on how often you clean and descale your machine will help to prolong its life, especially if you live in a hard-water area. Look for automatic cleaning and descaling programs to make maintaining it less of a hassle.
