Find out the best place to buy your turkey and trimmings, as chosen by Which? members.

Cooking Christmas dinner can be daunting, but you can avoid turkey terror by choosing the best place to buy your bird.

We surveyed 4,226 members in January 2019 to find out where they rated top for Christmas dinner essentials.

Turkey

Specialist suppliers, butchers and farm shops are tops for turkey, our members told us. As in previous years, our members loved the succulent taste and excellent quality of their turkey centrepiece.

In fourth place was a store we've not seen rated so highly before, followed by one of the low-cost supermarkets that members said brought an excellent value, tasty turkey to their tables.

 Sausages

Whether you’re swaddling them in bacon for pigs in blankets or frying them up for a Boxing Day breakfast, our members loved the bangers they got from their butcher or farm shop while picking up the turkey.

Our top scoring supermarket for sausages scored highly for value for money with Which? members. However, they felt that either the quality, taste or the price of their sausage suffered with other supermarkets.

Stuffing

It was the same story for stuffing - butchers and farm shops were rated for high-quality stuffing that tasted delicious.

Of the top two supermarkets rated for stuffing, one had a quality rating that stood shoulder-to-shoulder with the butchers and farm shops, whilst the other offered outstanding value for money, our members said.

 Fresh vegetables

Those lucky enough to have a local market on their doorstep were the most satisfied with their Christmas veg, followed closely by greengrocer, veg box scheme and farm shop customers.

If you’re filling your festive basket at a supermarket, there are two options for veg at the top of the table. Although their taste and quality wasn’t rated quite as highly as the best sellers offered, members said they excelled at offering excellent value for money.
