Best coach holiday companies 2026

From quick UK breaks to grand European tours, over 1,300 seasoned holidaymakers ranked 28 coach companies. Find out which came top and promise your holiday price won't increase with rising oil prices

The best coach trips don't just offer a sparkling itinerary, excellent guides, and top facilities. By ruling out surcharges, they also ensure your original holiday price stays final.

It's more important than ever to pick a coach holiday provider that won't pass on unexpected costs to you. Holiday companies have the legal right to charge customers up to 8% more if costs for fuel and taxes go up, but the coach holiday companies that are Which? Recommended Providers (WRPs) won't.

Plus, all our WRPs offer packages, which means your money is protected under the Package Travel Regulations. For example, if your travel company goes bust or fails to deliver the trip as promised, you are guaranteed a full refund or suitable replacement holiday.

While all WRPs scored highly in our survey, they offer different types of tours for a range of budgets. Some have a curated selection of UK-only tours and others offer hundreds of itineraries further afield. Depending on which you book with, you can find everything from holidays dedicated to over-50s or solo travellers, as well as premium tours featuring luxury perks like door-to-door chauffeur service.

What counts as a coach holiday?

Typically, coach holidays are organised package trips in the UK or abroad. Some start in the UK and offer to pick you up from your front door or a local meeting point. But our survey also includes trips where travellers caught a flight or train before joining the coach tour.

Most coach holiday packages usually include all travel, entrance fees and accommodation. You can usually choose bed and breakfast or half board, and some add evening entertainment.

Survey conducted in February-March 2026 based on 1,382 members of the public and the Connect Panel who have been on 1,835 package coach holidays in the UK or abroad in the past three years (i.e. since February 2023). Sample sizes in brackets. 'n/a' indicates we did not receive enough responses to report on a company in that category. Customer score based on satisfaction and whether members would recommend.

You don’t need to spend a fortune on a great coach trip. Two of our Which? Recommended Providers (WRPs) were among the cheapest based on what customers told us, and these companies still received numerous five-star ratings. Ultimately, you should choose a company that fits your priorities – whether that’s solo holidays with no single supplements or fully-inclusive dining and entertainment. Crucially, booking with a WRP protects you from post-booking surcharges if fuel prices go up, which can otherwise add up to 8% extra.

Which coach holiday companies does Which? recommend?

Loch and Glens review, Which? Recommended Provider

Verdict: See Scotland in style and comfort with exceptional coach tours – mostly for the over-55s

Customer score: 86%

Pros

  • Holidays lived up to high expectations
  • Impeccable itineraries and organisation
  • Helpful guides
  • Tours are exceptional value for money

Cons

  • Only offers coach holidays in Scotland

Loch and Glens runs Highland coach holidays built around their own portfolio of six historic hotels. Your accommodation is just as scenic as the drive, with hotels ranging from an 1881 hotel resting in the shadow of Kilchurn Castle, to a grand former Victorian Railway hotel overlooking the waters of Loch Linnhe. The family-run company states that most of their customers are aged 55+ and its tours run all year round to make the most of Scotland in every season and for special events. It operates its own fleet of coaches and offers a massive network of more than 600 pick-up points, though availability depends on your specific tour route. Its package holidays usually include return coach travel, excursions, accommodation, breakfast, dinner and nightly entertainment – such as live music or quiz nights.

Many guests told us that their Loch and Glens holidays ran like well-oiled machines, praising the smartly paced itineraries and regular comfort breaks. Holidaymakers were highly impressed by the 'friendly and informative' guides and hassle-free experience where 'you just have to sit back and relax'.

The company's hotels, which are classified as three to five stars on Loch and Glens' own rating scale, were a major highlight. One guest who stayed at the four-star Inversnaid Hotel told us: 'Often coach holidays are to run-down hotels but this was an old hunting lodge and beautiful'. Another holidaymaker pointed out that 'bar prices [were] very reasonable, especially bearing in mind they have a captive clientele.' Great experiences have kept customers coming back – one survey respondent told us they've been on an impressive 24 Loch and Glens tours.

Its holidays received high ratings for their value for money, too. As one guest put it: 'You wouldn't have been able to reproduce the holiday on your own for that price. The staff couldn't do enough for you, from the hotel to the wonderful driver.' It's also a great choice for solo travellers, as it does not charge single supplements.

Alfa Holidays review, Which? Recommended Provider

Verdict: Comfortable, expertly planned coach tours at reasonable prices

Customer score: 82%

Pros

  • Stood out for its holidays' value for money
  • Tours meet expectations
  • Phenomenal customer care
  • High-quality itineraries

Cons

  • Holidays are across UK and Ireland only

Alfa Holidays (previously known as Alfa Travel) is a large, employee-owned coach holiday provider offering hundreds of itineraries across the UK and Ireland. A feeder coach picks you up from over 400 local points across England, Scotland and Wales before connecting you to the main coach. Its packages usually include return coach travel, half-board accommodation, luggage handling and excursions.

Customers raved about the excellent value of their Alfa Holidays coach trip. You’ll be put up in either an Alfa Hotel or in one of its partner hotels, which were sometimes described by guests as ‘no frills’. But the company scored five stars for value for money and in meeting customers’ expectations, and one respondent said accommodations were 'always clean, comfortable and well furnished.'

The company's customer service also impressed holidaymakers. One said: 'I have travelled with Alfa many times and they always go out of their way to make holidays as enjoyable as possible.' Another highlighted the convenience of Alfa’s luggage handling policy, explaining that 'when you put your suitcase on the coach, you don't see it again until it is in your hotel room (very handy as we are both over 75).'

One guest shared that the tours give you 'plenty of time to see the sights,' with another adding, 'the itinerary is packed full, but it also gives tourists plenty of freedom'. The drivers were professional and well liked, with one described as 'very knowledgeable, friendly and funny and was a perfect ambassador for the company'.

Solo travellers can join any tour without paying a single supplement, or choose to travel on a dedicated ‘solo break’ with others travelling as individuals.

Riviera Travel review, Which? Recommended Provider

Verdict: Delivers diverse luxury tours backed up by dedicated customer service

Customer score: 82%

Pros

  • Offers premium holidays that are still value for money
  • Lots of tours available across the world
  • Top-rated tour itineraries and guides
  • Well-organised packages

Cons

  • No local pick-ups (you fly or take a train journey to meet the tour)

Riviera Travel offers dozens of escorted coach tours worldwide. Your trip starts with a flight or train journey and you connect with your touring coach on arrival. It has a wide range of packages where your guided visits and experiences are built into the upfront cost, while keeping things like meal plans flexible. It also runs dedicated solo traveller tours to bring independent travellers together.

Though Riviera Travel holidays are a premium option, customers in our survey felt like they were getting a good deal. As one explained, they are 'not the cheapest of tour operators, but good value for money as they are very good at organising a tour'. They cap their group sizes somewhere between 22 and 36 guests so tours don't get too crowded.

Guests overwhelmingly praised Riviera Travel's staff and tour guides for their knowledge, friendliness and professionalism. They appreciated how they 'sort out all the details' and took them to places they wouldn't have managed alone. Others liked how the guides 'kept your attention' with tours that were 'the right pace and the right length'.

We like Riviera Travel's booking terms too. For example, its 'Happiness Guarantee' protection means that if you're not happy by day two of your trip, it will bring you home with a full refund.

Saga review, Which? Recommended Provider

Verdict: Provides immersive and worry-free coach holidays for over 50s

Customer score: 82%

Pros

  • Delivered exactly what guests expected
  • Rated great value for money
  • Provides expertly curated itineraries
  • Creates a stress-free experience

Cons

  • Strict over-50 age limit

Saga exclusively organises holidays to every continent across the world for travellers aged 50 and over (or 40 and over for any travelling companions). Almost everything from guided excursions to your return travel and overnight accommodation is bundled into the upfront price – as well as a choice of half board or all-inclusive dining – offering peace of mind. As one traveller said: 'They took the hassle out of everything and we could just relax and enjoy it.' A favourite perk in our customer survey was the door-to-door experience, which includes a return shared chauffeur service to ensure a smooth journey from the moment you leave home.

The company was also highly commended for taking great care of all its guests, achieving four stars for its customer service in our survey. One guest told us: 'I have used them a few times and they have provided an excellent holiday with care taken to ensure that people with mobility issues [...] and single travellers like myself are fully included.' For holidays in 2027, its new ‘Love It First Time’ guarantee promises guests a full refund and free transport home if you find that you’re not happy within the first day of your first Saga overseas holiday (that’s longer than seven nights).

The quality of the guides and itineraries received five star ratings from customers. One traveller explained that 'the itinerary was well explained each day and every aspect I wanted to experience came to pass'. Another emphasised the value of the local expertise built into the tour: 'The tour guide, a local man, was exceptional and made the whole experience an enlightening experience for everyone on the tour. It would have been difficult to do such a wide-ranging yet in-depth tour independently.'

We've assessed Saga in seven other holiday categories, including solo and beach holidays. See our full Saga review for all the details.
