VW California

Discounts are rare on the VW California

We've scoured the internet to bring you the cheapest deals on cars. This week, we've saved over £3.5k off a VW California, £22k off a nearly-new Mercedes and nearly £7k off a Vauxhall Astra Estate. We challenge you to find cheaper...

VW California for £33k

Volkswagen has just revamped its Transporter vans range with new engines and an appearance upgrade. Why should you care? Because this also affects the Caravelle people carrier and California camper van.

Result? You might just be able to get a rare deal on one of these - if you’re happy to settle for the older, less efficient 2.5-litre turbodiesel engine and pre-facelift looks. The California is the world’s only official carmaker-built camper van, but it's currently sitting in Auto eBid’s top deals section.

The reverse auction site, where dealers bid for your custom by offering their lowest possible price, reckons the most it will cost at the moment is £33,237 - and with any luck you’ll pay even less. List price for the current model is £36,806 - so that’s a £3,569 saving.

The revised California is set to cost even more - close to £40,000, we’ve been told  - so get a bargain while you can.

Mercedes CL

Huge savings on Mercedes' luxurious CL 500

Save up to £22k on Mercedes

Broadspeed has a stack of in-stock Mercedes-Benz offers with serious savings. All of these cars are a maximum of 100 miles ‘old’ - so not brand new, but very nearly. Here’s a rundown of the juiciest...

The deals start small, with A-Class models going for as little as £11,991 and C-Class from £19,991. Base list prices are £14,290 and £22,530, respectively, so that’s minimum savings of £2,299 and £2,539. SLK roadsters are priced from £24,994, versus lowest list of £29,445 - a £4,451 reduction. The brand new E-Class Coupé starts from £26,992, versus a basic list of £30,280 - £3,288 off. And M-Class 4x4 turbodiesels from £32,992 represent a saving of £5,910 against the £38,905 list.

Then things get really impressive. Broadspeed is offering £15,000 reductions on the CLK 500 (cars that have just been replaced by the E-Class Coupé, but are still just 100 miles old), £20,000 off the S-Class luxury saloon and SL premium roadster, and a massive £22,000 off the CL 500 luxury coupé.

See the Broadspeed website for more details.

Vauxhall Astra Estate

New Astra means the old one's going cheap...

Vauxhall Astra Estate diesel deal

Finally, another Vauxhall Astra deal that’s just too tempting to ignore.

Occupying the ‘biggest discount’ slot on Carquake at the moment is the current shape 1.7-litre CDTi turbodiesel Astra Estate. It's in basic Life specification, but still includes air conditioning and handy roof rails. These cars are in stock in a choice of colours at Seward Cars Vauxhall in Poole.

List price was £18,810, but Sewards is selling them for £11,995. That’s a £6,815 saving - and you can knock another £1,000 off if you’ve got a car to scrap under the Government scrappage scheme.
