Cheap fibre broadband deals
SSE Ultrafast Fibre Broadband (offer ends 14 November)
- Total cost over 18 month contract: £378
- Effective monthly cost: £21
SSE offers a fantastic deal that gives you fibre broadband at the incredible price of just £21 per month. And best of all, the package offers speeds of up to 76Mbps rather than the usual 'budget' fibre option of 38Mbps.
The £21 a month fee includes £16 for line rental and £5 for a call bundle - the broadband element is free. There's no charge for the supplied router and typically no activation fee, though this does depend on which company previously provided your broadband. However, even if you do have to pay a small activation charge, the deal is still the cheapest on the market.
The promotion, which runs until 14 November, includes an unlimited data allowance (though SSE applies traffic management to its broadband packages) and has an 18-month contract. The 'Talk Anytime' call bundle (there's also a more expensive 'Talk Anytime Plus' option) gives you free local and national calls (of up to 70 minutes) at any time as well as free calls to 20 international countries. Again, there's a fair use policy meaning that usage is capped at 1,000 minutes or 150 calls a month of UK calls and 700 minutes a month of international calls.

Plusnet Unlimited Fibre (line rental saver option)
- Total cost over 18 month contract : £456.99
- Effective monthly cost (not the advertised price): £25.39
If you decide against the SSE deal then this one from Plusnet is the second best on the market. However it's a pretty distant second, only offering speeds of up to 38Mbps and lacking any free calls - you have to pay for all of your phone usage.
The package is effectively £25 a month plus a £6.99 charge to send you a router (this works out at 39p per month over the length of the contract). However to get this low price you have to pay your line rental up front - £185.88 a year. If you don't want to do this then the cost of the package jumps to £27.50 a month (plus the small fee for the router).
