Product recall: Primula cheese spreads may contain toxic bacteria

Cheese maker Primula has withdrawn all of its cheese tubes from sale after the discovery of Clostridium botulinum in one of its products.
The company, which says it's working 'round the clock' to address the issue, has stopped distributing its products to retailers. Consumers have been advised not to eat any Primula Cheese tubes that they may have at home.

Why are Primula products being recalled?
A message on Primula's website confirms that the brand has identified Clostridium botulinum in one of its products.
Clostridium botulinum can cause botulism, which is a rare but potentially very serious illness that can cause breathing difficulties and muscle paralysis. A statement from the FSA (Food Standards Agency) says that botulinum toxin may also cause a serious form of food poisoning.
In a statement, Primula said: 'We would like to reassure customers that instances like this are extremely rare.'
'We would also like to apologise to those who won't be able to get their hands on our cheese for a short period of time while we work hard to resolve the issue.'
