I'm trying to sort out my 2025-2026 tax return but can't find the summary of my state pension payments.

What is the best way to proceed?

'Go back over your bank statements'

Mike Croxford says...

Usually, when you sign in to the online account, the figures are automatically uploaded from information supplied by the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) to HMRC.

However, as you started receiving your state pension halfway through the tax year, this hasn't happened. Instead, go back over your bank statements and simply add up the income received.

Because you receive the state pension every four weeks, the amount you actually get over a year may not be the same figure as that supplied by DWP

This income is taxable, but it's always paid gross and the burden of any income tax due is loaded on to any private pensions you have.

Be aware that in future, the annual figures DWP supply to HMRC is the weekly rate times 52 weeks. However, because you're receiving the state pension every four weeks, the amount you actually get over a year may not be the same figure as that supplied by DWP.
