Our pick: Dyson V11 Extra

Average price in the past six months: £421
Cheapest price in the past six months: £330*

  • Bagless and cordless stick vacuum cleaner
  • 0.8 litre dust capacity
  • Weighs 3kg

We like: Convenient to use at height and on furniture

We don't like: Hard to push on thick carpets

As the name suggests, the Dyson V11 Extra stick vacuum cleaner comes with plenty of attachments, including one for your mattress, a quick-release dusting nozzle, and a detangle brush head that’s designed to keep itself hair-free.

Like all Dysons it’s bagless, and this one has a 0.8-litre capacity. The canister has a ‘point and shoot’ emptying mechanism that’s designed to expel the dirt without you having to reach inside the container.

Dyson Cyclone V10 Absolute

Average price in the past six months: £330
Cheapest price in the past six months: £278*

  • Bagless and cordless stick vacuum cleaner
  • 0.9 litre dust capacity
  • Weighs 2.7kg

We like: Power doesn’t drop off as it fills

We don't like: Battery life could be better

The Dyson Cyclone V10 Absolute bagless vacuum has a 0.9 litre dust capacity, which is more generous than previous models like the V7 and V8, and means it won’t need to be emptied as often. It comes with two floor heads: a universal brush head and a soft roller brush that’s designed to leave hard floors super-clean.

You get an angled hinge attachment that allows the vac to reach under low furniture, and it can be used as a handheld cleaner with the combi dusting and upholstery nozzle, crevice tool or mini turbo brush. It also comes with a wall-mountable docking station and a charger.

See how this vac fared in our rigorous tests in our full Dyson Cyclone V10 Absolute review.

Dyson V12 Detect Slim Absolute

Average price in the past six months: £473
Cheapest price in the past six months: £389*

Dyson V12 Detect Slim Absolute

  • Bagless and cordless stick vacuum cleaner
  • 0.4 litre dust capacity
  • Weighs 2.5kg

We like: Easy to use

We don't like: Mediocre battery life

This Dyson comes with several eye-catching features, including a laser beam on the illuminated cleaner head to highlight tiny dust particles that are often tricky to detect on hard floors. It'll even tell you the number of particles it sucks up as it cleans on the digital display.

In addition, there's a choice of two cleaner heads (motorised with de-tangling technology or that illuminated head with built-in laser), and an abundance of accessories, including a hair tool for picking up animal fur and long hair, a crevice tool, a low reach adapter, a combination tool and a charging station.

Dyson Gen5detect

Cheapest price in the past six months: £544.99*

Dyson Gen5detect
  • Bagless and cordless stick vacuum cleaner
  • 0.9 litre dust capacity
  • Weighs 3.5kg

We like: Long run time

We don't like: Not the quietest

Dyson says this cordless vacuum has the longest run time yet and provides more suction than previous models. It has plenty of accessories and an LCD screen to show how many particles it’s picking up.

There's a detachable handheld unit and a host of nozzles and heads, including a motorised floor bar, an anti-tangle head for removing pet hair, a furniture and upholstery nozzle, plus a crevice tool. You’ll also find a charging cable that can be used with or without the wall dock.

Cheapest price in the past six months: £117*

Vax Pace Plus CLSV-PAKA
  • Bagless and cordless stick vacuum cleaner
  • 0.6 litre dust capacity
  • Weighs 3.2kg

We like: Quiet

We don't like: Inconvenient to use at height

If you have plenty of cleaning to do, the Vax Pace Plus cordless vacuum cleaner comes with a removable battery, so you could be charging up a spare while you're hoovering.

It weighs 3.2kg, and the dust canister can hold 0.6 litres of debris, which is typical for this type of cleaner. There’s a motorised floor head for use on hard floors and carpets, and it comes with a smaller nozzle to use on stairs. A slim crevice tool is also included.

Shark PowerPro IZ380UK

Average price in the past six months: £228
Cheapest price in the past six months: £155*

Shark PowerPro IZ380UK
  • Bagless and cordless stick vacuum cleaner
  • 1 litre dust capacity
  • Weighs 3.5kg

We like: Removes pet hair with ease

We don't like: Suction drops as the container fills

This cordless stick vac has a motorised floor head detects the type of flooring it’s on, as well as the dirt beneath it, and adjusts the suction power accordingly. Plus, Shark claims that the anti-hair wrap roller is designed not to get tangled up with long strands of hair.

It can be transformed into a handheld cleaner for tackling tricky areas such as stairs, upholstery and car interiors, and supplied accessories include a crevice tool and upholstery nozzle, battery and a charger.

It weighs 3.5kg, so it’s not too heavy, and has a 1-litre dust capacity, which is more generous than some.

Is this vacuum as good at dealing with hair as Shark claims? Find out in our full Shark PowerPro IZ380UK review.

Numatic Henry Quick HEN.100

Average price in the past six months: £272
Cheapest price in the past six months: £198*

A cordless vacuum cleaner
This model is also available direct from Henry for £199.99. Or compare prices at other retailers:
  • Bagged cordless handstick vacuum cleaner
  • 1 litre dust capacity
  • Weighs 3.3kg

We like: Cleans well with a full dust container

We don't like: Poor performance on minimum power

This was the first cordless handstick offering from Numatic. The floor nozzle is an electro brush, but this model also comes with a combi tool that doubles up as an upholstery nozzle and a furniture brush.

This is a bagged vacuum, which means the dust pods will have to be regularly replaced. They can hold up to a litre of dust and debris and are made from recycled materials, according to Numatic. Pods are often less messy than a dust container when it comes to emptying, so this might be a good option if you suffer from dust related allergies.

Cheapest price in the past six months: £339*

Samsung Bespoke Jet AI
  • Bagless and cordless stick vacuum cleaner

We like: Versatile with a long run time

We don't like: Floorhead can get stuck in deep pile carpet

The first artificial intelligence (AI) vacuum from Samsung comes with plenty of flashy-sounding features, such as AI cleaning mode and a self-emptying cleaning station.

It also has an LED display and a telescopic shaft that can be adjusted to suit the height of the person using it. And it comes with two choices of floorheads – a slim LED Brush+, which can be used for intelligent cleaning (according to the manufacturer, AI mode detects cleaning environments such as floor type), and an active dual brush for carpets and hard floors.

As you would expect for the price tag, it comes with a generous amount of premium cordless vacuum accessories, including a crevice tool, pet/hair tool, an accessory cradle and two types of battery (a large capacity and a lightweight). It also comes with an accessory rack and three dust bags.

Currys Essentials C700VC18

Currys Essentials C700VC18

You can now by this vacuum cleaner for £59.99 at Currys

  • Bagless corded cylinder vacuum cleaner
  • 1.3 litre dust capacity
  • Weighs 4.6kg

We like: Excellent filters

We don't like: Only average at cleaning on carpet

This simple bagless cylinder vacuum cleaner exclusive to Currys weighs 4.6kg, which is light in comparison other similar models, and it has a medium-sized 1.3- litre dust capacity.

At 7.6 metres, its overall reach is pretty modest compared with other vacuums on the market, so you might need to change plug sockets quite often.

In the box you get a combination floor head, a crevice nozzle, an extension tube and a flexible hose. It's a relatively simple vacuum cleaner, to reflect its modest price.

Want to know if this cheap cleaner punches above its weight? Our Currys Essentials C700VC18 review reveals all.

Hoover H-POWER 300 Allergy & Pets
  • Bagless corded cylinder vacuum cleaner
  • 2.1 litre dust capacity
  • Weighs 5.7kg

We like: Good on hard floors

We don't like: A little awkward to use

This Hoover H-POWER 300 is a compact vacuum cleaner with a long 9-metre reach from a plug socket, plus a 1.5 metre hose and 2.5 metre stretch hose for even more freedom of movement. It's also equipped with a H13 HEPA Filter and aimed towards allergy sufferers and pet owners.

In the box you’ll also find a telescopic tube, all floors nozzle, motorised mini turbo pets brush, 2-in-1 crevice tool/dusting brush. It’s not difficult to use but it’s also not the most ergonomic vacuum cleaner we’ve seen.

It has an enormous bagged capacity of 4.1 litres, an extremely lengthy 13-metre reach and weighs 8.6kg, which is pretty heavy for this type. Like all Numatics, it's on four caster wheels, which makes it easy to drag around the home.

Shark NZ691UKT

Average price in the past six months: £212
Cheapest price in the past six months: £147*

Shark NZ691UKT corded vacuum cleaner
  • Bagless and upright, corded vacuum cleaner
  • 2.5 litre dust capacity
  • Weighs 6.1kg

We like: Good with pet hair

We don't like: Not the most manoeuvrable

The ‘lift away’ part of the Shark NZ691UKT’s model name refers to the fact that you can detach the main unit from the floor head to make it more portable, which is handy when cleaning awkward areas like stairs. It comes with Shark’s well-known ‘anti-hair wrap’ technology to avoid brush head clogs, and you can toggle between carpet and hard-flooring modes.

It weighs 6.1kg, which is fairly heavy for a corded vacuum. It comes with three attachments – a multi-service brush, a crevice tool and a dedicated attachment for removing pet hair.

Miele Guard L1 Cat & Dog

Cheapest price in the past six months: £249*

Miele Guard L1 Cat & Dog

It comes with a universal floorhead for use on carpet and hard floors, a long crevice tool and a 2-in-1 combi upholstery nozzle and dusting brush. It uses Miele’s HyClean Pure disposable bags to collect the dust. Dyson 360 Vis Nav Robot Vacuum

Average price in the past six months: £970.90
Cheapest price in the past six months: £599.99*

dyson 360 vis nav robot vacuum
  • Robot vacuum cleaner
  • 0.5 litre dust capacity

We like: Very easy to use

We don't like: Not the quietest

The Dyson 360 Vis Nav Robot Vacuum doesn't come cheap, so it's great to see this one on offer.

It comes with a charging station, and is controlled with MyDyson app (note that you can't set it up without a wi-fi connection).

The dust container has a sliding button that makes it easy to empty. However, because the bottom of the dust container opens when you slide the button, the dirt drops out very rapidly and causes a cloud of fine dust. We'd recommend dropping any dirt, particularly fine dirt, into a deep bin to stop the dust cloud getting everywhere.

We like: Very easy to use and clean

We don't like: Struggles to climb high ledges

Eufy specialises in home security systems and robot vacuum cleaners, with the X8 Pro one of its more affordable vacs. In addition to the vacuum cleaning, it also has a mop function.

It's able to dock into its self-empty station without the user having to intervene, and it cleans the roller brushes every time it does so. You can adjust the frequency of emptying into the charging station via the app if you don't want this after every clean.

How to spot a good deal on a vacuum cleaner

Andrew Laughlin, Which? vacuum cleaner expert, says:

Andrew Laughlin

With some vacuums almost perennially on 'special offer', it can be hard to know which deals are genuine money savers.

Stick to these golden rules to help get the best value with your next purchase.

  • Don't fall for features and accessories Some models come with impressive-sounding features. Think Flexology (a flexible cleaning tube), or Lift-Away (a removable handheld unit), or Vax's QuickClean (also a removable unit). While useful, you'll most likely find similar features across many other brands, just with more conventional names. Models in the same range (eg the Samsung Jet range) usually have the same core machine – the only difference is the accessories and supplied floor heads. An entry-level model typically costs about £100 less than a premium model with all the accessories.
  • Check the price of similar models Many vacs have a basic package and a more expensive pet variant, which comes with a mini-tool for cleaning up after your furry friends. In some circumstances, you'd be better off buying the basic model and the pet tool separately. However, always check the prices of variants, as you might find the pet version on offer for less than the basic model.
  • Check out the latest price data If a deal seems too good to be true, you can use price comparison sites such as PriceRunner and PriceSpy to check historical price data. The data should reveal how regularly a vacuum goes on sale (if it's on 'special offer' for most of the year, the offer isn't all that special) and whether the 'before' price is accurate. It's worth doing a quick Google search too, as not all retailers' price feeds are picked up by these sites.

Dyson vacuum deals

Based on historical pricing data, we think these prices represent genuinely good savings on some of Dyson's most popular cordless models:

  • Dyson Gen5detect Cordless  anything less than £699
  • Dyson V15 Detect Absolute – anything less than £550 (£499 for the Animal model)
  • Dyson V12 Detect Slim Absolute – anything less than £449
  • Dyson Outsize Absolute – anything less than £699
  • Dyson V11 Absolute – anything less than £599 (£499 for the Animal model)
  • Dyson Cyclone V10Absolute – anything less than £399 (£349 for the Animal model)
  • Dyson V8 Animal – anything less than £329
  • Dyson V7 Animal – anything less than £249

We've noticed that prices can rise in the months before big sales events such as Black Friday, Christmas sales or Cyber Monday, creating the illusion of huge savings on the day.

Always check PriceRunner or PriceSpy to compare historical prices to find out of the model you're after is actually being sold at a low price.

Shark vacuum deals

Based on historical data, we think these prices represent genuinely good savings on some of Shark's most popular models:

  • Shark HZ3000UKT – anything under £249
  • Shark IZ300UK – anything under £299
  • Shark ICZ160UK – anything under £299
  • Shark IZ201UK – anything under £249
  • Shark NV702UK – anything under £189
  • Shark NV602UK – anything under £169
  • Shark HZ500UK – anything under £179

Also keep in mind that cordless Sharks are sold with one, two or sometimes even three batteries.

If you opt for a package with extra batteries, bear in mind that you can buy spare batteries from the Shark website for around £70, so the deal only makes sense if the package is a similar price to the single-battery model.

If you live in a smaller property, you probably don't need extra batteries, as a single charge will last long enough to vacuum your home in one go. Any battery faults should be covered by the manufacturer's guarantee for the first two years.

Samsung vacuum deals

If you're looking to replace your old Samsung with a new model, don't forget to check the Samsung website for trade-in deals for your old appliance. They'll take your old vacuum, price it and then you'll be able to put the money towards a new model.

How to recycle your old vacuum cleaner

Some retailers will offer to recycle your old vacuum cleaner, although they can sometimes charge a fee for doing so.

Our guide on how to recycle electrical items will help you assess your options.
