Best lemon squeezers 2025: top picks reviewed by experts

The best lemon squeezers extract plenty of lemon juice while requiring minimal effort.
Our tests evaluated each lemon squeezer based on its ability to extract juice, its ease of use, and whether or not it created a mess.
We put a range of different kinds of lemon squeezer through our tests, from big-name brands such as Borough Kitchen, Ikea, Joseph Joseph and ProCook to the iconic Alessi Juicy Salif Citrus Squeezer designed by Philippe Starck.
One lemon squeezer was impressive enough to be a Best Buy, another budget-friendly model earned our Great Value badge, and one was so poor we made it a Don't Buy.
How our tests find you the best
We squeezed 80 lemons
To work out which lemon squeezer is best, we gave our tester no fewer than 80 lemons. Fair to say he made a lot of lemonade.

How we test lemon squeezers

We buy the best-selling and most searched-for lemon squeezers from UK retailers. We buy every lemon squeezer we test – no freebies from manufacturers – meaning our reviews are honest and unbiased.
Ease of squeezing
We squeeze two whole lemons back-to-back. The best lemon squeezers make this process feel almost effortless: they're intuitive to use, don't cause your hands to tire and ache, and don't leave residual lemon juice all over you and the counter.
If the lemon squeezers come with a seed filter or a collection flask, we reward these handy features in our reviews.
Juicing performance
A lemon squeezer should be good at its one job – squeezing lemons. We calculate, as a percentage of the lemon's weight, how well the squeezer extracts the juice.
We found that most squeezers performed similarly in this test, although one or two were significantly worse.
Cleaning
Immediately after squeezing, we assess how easy each squeezer is to clean and how simple it is to dispose of the waste.
Build quality
We rate each lemon squeezer based on the quality of its materials and construction.

What are the different types of lemon squeezer?

Reamers
Reamers are the most basic kind of lemon squeezer, and very intuitive to use: you simply put the head of the reamer into half a lemon, and twist.
They're generally very compact, so won't take up much drawer space. But because reamers are so basic in design, they don't normally have any useful additions, such as a collection flask or seed filter. They also tend to cause quite a lot of mess and require more dexterity and strength to use than other kinds of squeezer.
Hinged
Hinged squeezers typically consist of two concave cups, each connected to long handles. You put half a lemon into the bottom cup and press the handles together, squeezing the lemon and forcing the juice out through holes that also filter out the seeds.
These squeezers typically require less strength and dexterity than reamers, and don't cause as much mess either. But they're quite large and don't come with a collection flask.
Countertop
To squeeze a lemon with a countertop squeezer, as the name suggests, you place the squeezer on a flat countertop and twist the lemon on top of it.
We found that countertop squeezers, compared with the other types, cause the least mess. But they also require a little more time if you want to squeeze a lemon fully, especially compared with hinged squeezers.
Alternative
Some lemon squeezers don't fit neatly into the categories above. We've categorised these as 'alternative' designs.
Manual squeezers vs electric juicers

Considering an electric squeezer over a manual one? Here are some pros and cons of going electric.
Pros
- Barely any force is needed to fully squeeze a lemon
- Very quick
- Better if you need larger quantities of lemon juice
- Perfect for those with limited hand mobility
- Can juice citrus fruits larger than lemons
Cons
- Usually pricier
- Noisier
- More of a nuisance to clean
- Take up more space
We've tested two electric juicers, the Braun CJ3000 Citrus Juicer and the Salter EK5878 Citrus Juicer.

Are lemon squeezers worth it?

Yes. Lemon squeezers are well worth it for anyone who wants to extract more lemon juice with less effort, and in a fraction of the time.
We found that even the lowest-scoring lemon squeezers in our test extracted more juice than hand-squeezing alone – and created less mess. On average, the best non-electric lemon squeezers we tested produced about 40% more lemon juice than hand-squeezing did.
How to juice a citrus without a juicer

If you still want to squeeze without a juicer, we found that rolling the lemon firmly on a countertop for about 15 seconds before squeezing can make a huge difference.
This trick not only makes the process easier and quicker, but it also helps you extract significantly more juice than you would otherwise – a huge 19% on average.
