The Now TV Entertainment Pass offers live viewing, catch-up TV and on-demand entertainment from 13 pay-TV channels.

Which? verdict: If you want Sky's exclusive TV content without signing up to satellite TV, the Now TV Entertainment Pass is a good option. You can stream live Sky TV channels - including Sky Atlantic, Fox and Sky Arts - and dip back into over 300 box sets of popular shows. Its subscribers say they love it.

In our customer satisfaction survey, Now TV's Entertainment Pass came in second place - beating the offerings from both Netflix and Amazon Prime.

What do you get with the Now TV Entertainment Pass?

Access to 11 popular pay TV channels, including Sky One, Sky Atlantic, FOX, Comedy Central, MTV, Gold, Syfy and VICE. Access to over 300 box sets is part of the subscription too - shows such as Criminal Minds, Doc Martin, Grey's Anatomy and The Wire are included. We've broken down the pros and cons of a Now TV Entertainment Pass:

Pros: Sky has plenty of desirable exclusive programmes across comedy, drama and documentaries, but not everyone wants a satellite dish on their house. Now TV Entertainment offers you access to Sky TV without having to sign up to an expensive, long-term TV package. Our survey respondents rated it highest for new content, with 79% feeling that the shows were regularly refreshed. Plus, 84% told us that they regularly found something to watch on the service. A third of Now TV Entertainment subscribers we surveyed told us that they watch it every day. It offers more TV selections from IMDB’s 250 top-rated shows than Amazon, although Netflix trumps both on that score.

Cons: Laptop/PC viewers get a bit of a raw deal, with more limited internet browser compatibility. You'll need to download the Now TV Player app, though Chromebooks aren't currently supported. Streaming is only available at 720p HD image quality, rather than Full HD or 4K Ultra HD on other services. The situation is actually worse if you watch Now TV using a YouView box - these are limited to standard definition content.

Since we reviewed the Entertainment Pass, Sky moved the child-orientated content to a separate Kids Pass, costing an additional £3.99 a month - do bear that in mind if kids' content is what you are after. Sky also only offers a 14-day free trial of the Entertainment Pass, compared to a full month for Netflix and Amazon. If you’re tempted to watch drama hit Game of Thrones, be aware that Now TV usually only offers the show via catch-up after its broadcast on Sky Atlantic. This means that it is not guaranteed that you'll be able to watch previous series as a box set on the service.
