At the moment, Firmus Energy is the only company that supplies domestic gas customers in the Ten Towns area. In the Greater Belfast area, customers have a choice between Firmus Energy and SSE Airtricity for their gas supply.
Firmus Energy claims its gas is safe, cheaper, practical and environmentally friendly. It also owns and builds its own infrastructure.
Since it launched in 2005, Firmus has built gas networks in more than 30 cities, towns and villages, and connected more than 95,000 customers.

Which? verdict on Firmus Energy
Firmus Energy comes second from the bottom of the table (alongside SSE Airtricity Gas).
It received three stars out of five for value for money. Although other providers also got three stars, 18% of Firmus Energy's customers rated its value for money as poor or very poor - a higher proportion than any other NI supplier.
One customer said Firmus Energy had 'overinflated prices', while another said they were 'not happy with the price increases'.
Firmus Energy had enforced a 12% price increase for customers in the Ten Towns areas and Greater Belfast in October 2018. It has since announced a drop of 8.77% to its natural gas tariffs from October 2019, for both the Ten Towns area and Greater Belfast.
According to Firmus Energy, this should mean that a typical household bill for a customer in the Ten Towns area will drop by £61 a year, and £54 for a customer in the Greater Belfast area.
Customers were also not happy with the digital tools available to monitor their account and energy use, giving Firmus Energy just two stars out of five in this area - lower than any other Northern Ireland energy company.
It scored an impressive four stars out of five for bill accuracy, and three stars for customer service.
