Which? has revealed the most reliable kettle, toaster and iron brands following the results of its latest survey. We’ve collected data on more than 12,000 appliances to uncover which brands are the most long-lasting, as well as those that deliver the highest levels of customer satisfaction.
Food processor and stand mixer brands were also assessed, as were coffee machines and breadmakers. Each small appliance brand was given a reliability rating that indicates how likely it is for its appliances to remain fault free within a six year period.
The best and worst small appliance brands
The most reliable products in our survey were food processors and stand mixers, with one stand mixer brand achieving an impressive reliability score of 96%.
Kettles had the lowest average reliability score – around a third developed a fault within just three years of ownership. However, the most reliable kettle brand had far better longevity – just one in five of its kettles had developed a fault after six years of ownership.
Small appliance brands and customer satisfaction
Longevity isn’t the only thing that matters when choosing an appliance. We also asked customers how satisfied they were with their small appliances and how likely they would be to recommend them to a friend. One breadmaker brand was rated highly, achieving an impressive customer satisfaction score of 87%. But toaster brands had some of the lowest satisfaction ratings in the survey, with one scoring a pitiful 46%.
Our ‘Owners’ views’ pages reveal customer satisfaction scores for a range of brands for each appliance type. Use our reliability, customer satisfaction and test scores together to ensure that you purchase an appliance that does its job superbly, and won’t need replacing before you’re ready.
