How we assess boiler cover
We know from our research that the vast majority of households would be better off paying for boiler repairs on an ad-hoc basis, rather than shelling out the best part of £300 every year for boiler cover.*
We also know that some people prefer the peace of mind that boiler cover gives them. This is why we survey thousands of boiler cover customers each year about their providers, so we can tell you whether big brand boiler cover customers keep their customers happy.
Below, we explain in detail how we rate and review boiler cover.
Which? boiler cover brand reviews
Our most recent survey of boiler cover was carried out in August 2020.
We surveyed 1,123 people who pay for boiler cover. We analysed their responses to give four of the UK's biggest boiler cover brands an overall customer score.
Our reviews also outline each level of cover the providers in our survey offer, including any key exclusions and restrictions, so that you can choose the right boiler cover policy to meet your needs.
Best and worst boiler cover brands compared
Each brand's customer score is based on how satisfied customers of that brand are and how likely they would be to recommend their brand of boiler cover to a friend.
In addition to the customer score, we also rate each brand for:
- Customer service
- Value for money
- How quickly it responds to a breakdown
- How easy it is to arrange an annual service.
Our research has uncovered which brands customers don’t think are good value for money, and which brands' customers think they're merely mediocre when it comes to their response times or customer service.
If you decide that boiler cover is right for you, our expert research means we can tell you which companies won't let you down.
*£288 is the average cost of an annual boiler cover policy, based on our online survey of 1,123 Which? members who have boiler cover in August 2020.
