The best foot spas leave your feet in heavenly bliss. The worst are little better than a bucket of hot water.
We test each foot spa machine to see how relaxing it is, check how well it maintains a steady temperature and assess noise levels.
One foot spa stood out from the rest and merited our Best Buy recommendation, while we also uncovered a Great Value option for a lower price.
How our tests find you the best
Relaxation
Standing on your feet all day? Our testers kick back and relax with each foot spa we review so you can find the best machine to pamper tired feet.
Noise
No one wants a rumbling foot spa making a racket while you’re watching TV. That’s why we use a decibel meter to measure how loud each one is.
Heat retention
We use a temperature probe to accurately measure heat retention so you can avoid slipping your achy feet into a tepid pool of water.
We also test...
Temperature accuracy and how easy the foot spas are to fill, empty and move around your home.

We select the most popular foot spas from UK retailers – including more than one Argos foot spa and Boots foot spa – and a panel of testers put them through their paces. We buy all the products we test.
We regularly revisit the foot spas on sale to see if there are any more popular models that need testing and when we find them we do.
Each foot spa is assessed on the following:
We assess how easy it is to fill and empty, as well as rating its portability. The best are lightweight with a carry handle but some are heavy with no handle, so can be cumbersome to move around the home.
Our testers try out each foot spa, rating how relaxing the overall experience is, and assessing the extra features such as temperature settings and motorised rollers.
As well as giving each one a subjective assessment to see if the noise spoils relaxation, we also use a decibel meter to measure how noisy each foot spa is. Some are whisper quiet and won't disturb your relaxation time but some will have you turning up the volume on your TV.
We use temperature probes to assess how well each spa retains heat, as well as checking the accuracy of the temperature settings if it has them. Don't take the manufacturer's temperature settings at face value - in some cases we found they weren't accurate, so we make sure to highlight this in our reviews.

Soaking your feet in warm water can help to soften corns and calluses, as well as reducing general aches and pains. A good foot spa may also have the added benefit of stress relief by making you feel more relaxed.
We asked Emma McConnachie, a practising podiatrist and spokesperson for the Royal College of Podiatry, if it's recommended to use a foot spa. She advises: 'Anyone that has problems with their circulation or sensation in their feet should be cautious when using one, or avoid them. Always check the manufacturers guidance on who is suitable to use their product. If you are unsure if it is ok for your feet, check with your podiatrist.'
If you decide to use one, follow these safety tips. 'We would advise anyone using a foot spa to make sure they don't have any wounds or cuts on their feet prior to use,' says Emma. 'Water should not be shared between users and the unit should be thoroughly cleaned in between uses as per the manufacturer’s instructions to reduce the chance of bacterial build up inside it.'
Diabetes can impact the feeling and circulation around your feet. Therefore, the NHS advises that you avoid exposure to direct heat from foot spas, hot baths, hot water bottles and electric blankets.
Each foot spa comes with a different set of cleaning instructions, so make sure to consult the manual for more information on cleaning your appliance.
