Little-known but much-loved travel deals website Travelzoo has seen off better-known rivals to be named best hotel-booking website, in a survey by Which? Travel.
Based on 3,400 user experiences on 14 hotel booking websites, Travelzoo gained an overall customer score of 80%. It was also the only website awarded four stars for value for money. This meant it was rated higher than rivals Booking.com and Hotels.com.
At the other end of the table, Lastminute.com finished bottom with a mediocre customer score of 61%. It gained just two stars for the transparency of fees and customer service.

Travelzoo: who are they?
You probably won’t be able to use Travelzoo to replace Booking.com, Expedia or Hotels.com, because it has a comparatively limited number of searchable properties. Instead holidaymakers come here for the deals. Each week Travelzoo emails its subscribers with the 20 best deals of the week. These can vary from an overnight stay in Cumbria to a 10-day tour of India.
Hotels pay to have their properties listed on Travelzoo, but its four-star rating for value for money shows users clearly felt the deals were genuine. The site is membership only, but free to join.
Lastminute.com: rated worst hotel booking site
In contrast, Lastminute.com – which also offers curated holiday deals – came bottom after mustering just two stars for customer service. Users also felt it wasn’t transparent enough about fees, either being charged more than the price first quoted or facing extra fees at checkout.
