Which? magazine is the UK’s bestselling monthly, trusted by more than 600,000 subscribers. It’s packed with reviews, advice, investigations and news – our aim is to make individuals as powerful as the organisations they deal with in their daily lives.

Panasonic, LG, Samsung and Sony: four brands synonymous with TVs, but only two make more than a handful worth buying.

In this month’s magazine, Martin Pratt reveals the best TVs of 2020, explains some of the advanced features you can ignore and those you shouldn’t.

Meanwhile, more than £13m has been lost to fraud related to COVID-19, reports Faye Lipson. In spring this year, with the country in the early days of lockdown, the numbers of people dying from coronavirus reached more than 1,000 a day and the threat to life was of paramount concern in most homes.

Shockingly, although sadly not surprisingly, scammers saw an opportunity to steal and cheat. They sought to capitalise on the pandemic by creating a variety of financial scams with topical coronavirus ‘hooks’ to draw in flustered and stressed victims. To help you stay secure, we run through scams you need to watch out for.

From the editor

The experience of watching TV has been transformed in the past decade or so. And not just because chunkier plastic sets have been superseded by elegant picture-frame designs, or because 55-inch TVs are now the norm when once we regarded 32 inches as extravagant.

In a report earlier this year, Ofcom estimated that 12 million people accessed a new subscription streaming service during lockdown. Even before lockdown, more than half of UK households paid for the on-demand and near-overwhelming choice offered by Netflix, Amazon Prime and other paid services.

For those of us who still haven’t made it to the cinema since March, straight-to-streaming movies continue to offer a pretty decent alternative. I’m particularly looking forward to Aaron Sorkin’s The Trial of the Chicago 7, which is out on Netflix in October. I’ve also enjoyed the collections of obscure classics available on the British Film Institute’s BFI Player (£4.99 a month).

Of course, to enjoy a cinematic experience at home, you need a great TV. This month’s Test Lab Buyer’s Guide offers up our picks of the 2020 crop, including some very good choices from £399. And because we know that many of you will already be enjoying a Best Buy, our experts have also included some tips to make sure your settings are perfectly configured.
