What’s new in Which? magazine: January 2022

Which? magazine is the UK’s bestselling monthly, trusted by more than half a million subscribers.

It’s packed with reviews, advice, investigations and news – our aim is to make individuals as powerful as the organisations they deal with in their daily lives.

If you’re not yet a Which? member, we’re offering a sneak peek at the reviews and investigations that are featured in the latest issue.

Which? magazine: January 2022

In this month’s Which? magazine, we’ve whittled down more than 4,500 products tested in 2021 to just 50 of the very best. Our list of high-scoring products includes an affordable washing machine that leaves your clothes spotless, plus an exercise-tracking smartwatch that lasts a remarkable three weeks between charges.

The star of the show is a sub-£100 kitchen gadget that scored a show-stopping 95% in our rigorous lab tests – you’ll have to flick through the magazine to find out more.

Meanwhile, the latest Which? magazine also reveals the best and worst large appliance brands. We surveyed more than 17,000 people about 73,000 appliances and cross-analysed this with our test results for more than 1,500 products to find the best brands. Aaron West reports on the appliances that last a long time and remain fault-free.

From the editor

The products I enjoy featuring in this magazine the most are the hidden gems – those that do impressively well in our tests given their relatively low prices. This month, my ears pricked up at the mention of a mobile phone we’d just tested. My four-year-old Samsung was on its last legs, so I was intrigued by the prospect of a new 5G-enabled Best Buy for under £350 – less than a third of the price of its leading £1,200-plus flagship phone.

My requirements are fairly basic. I like to read newspaper apps, so I want a big, high-resolution screen, and I’m happy for the cameras to be merely good, rather than state of the art. I need the battery to see me through long days with a big commute, but my usage isn’t so high that I need the best available. I don’t want a phone that feels cheap, but I’m going to put a protective silicone case on it regardless, so a plastic back is fine.

Our reviews helped me find a great value model that fit the bill – so I bought it outright. I then picked up a Sim-only deal with ample data for £8 a month, meaning an equivalent monthly cost over a typical 24-month contract period of around £22. A great product at a bargain cost, all thanks to Which? testing.
