Food recall: certain chicken products sold in Morrisons, Sainsbury's and B&M recalled

Several chicken products sold in stores such as B&M, Morrisons and Sainsbury's have been recalled due to fears of salmonella contamination.

Vestey Foods has recalled Chick Inn 32 Jumbo Chicken Nuggets (England and Wales only), while SFC is recalling SFC Chicken Poppets and Take Home Boneless Buckets as salmonella has been found in these products.

Pregnant women, infants, the elderly and those with weakened immune systems are particularly vulnerable to salmonella.

SFC chicken nuggets being recalled

If you have bought SFC Chicken Poppets or a Take Home Boneless Bucket, check the batch number to see if yours is affected.

Batch codes starting with PKW are displayed on the outside of the box, or codes starting with an L are on the inner packaging.

Vestey Foods chicken nuggets also being recalled

The FSA also states that Vestey Foods has recalled one of its products after finding salmonella.

The Chick Inn 32 Jumbo Chicken Nuggets were sold at Heron Foods, B&M, and B&M Express only (England and Wales only).

What should I do if chicken I've bought has been recalled?

If you've bought any of the SFC or Vestey products listed above, you should not eat them. Instead, you should return them to the shop where you bought them for a full refund.

Alternatively, for SFC products, you can email a photo of the packaging (clearly showing the batch code) to customerservices@sfcwholesale.co.uk. You might prefer to do this if you're shielding.

Vestey Foods hasn't said if it will accept email-based returns.

Recall notices will be placed in stores that previously sold the products.

Symptoms of food poisoning from salmonella include:

• nausea
• diarrhoea
• stomach cramps
• vomiting
• a high temperature of 38°C or above
• feeling generally unwell: feeling tired and having aches and chills, for example

Symptoms usually develop within a few days of eating the contaminated food, according to the NHS. Sometimes symptoms can develop within just a few hours, though, or might even take as long as a few weeks to show.

If you contract food poisoning, the NHS advises you to drink plenty of fluids to avoid dehydration. Avoid fizzy drinks and fruit juice, which can exacerbate diarrhoea.

Most people should be able to recover from home and symptoms will pass within a week. For most people there is only a small risk of severe illness and the need for hospital care. However, you should seek medical help if you become ill and are concerned.
