Visonic burglar alarms review

Visonic's ranges of burglar alarms – the PowerMaster and PowerMax – are both wireless. You can opt for monitored or unmonitored systems.
Unfortunately in our 2019 survey of 1,398 burglar alarm owners, we didn't get a large enough sample size to include Visonic in our full results table.
A brand must be rated by at least 30 respondents to be included. While Visonic didn't meet the threshold this year, it was included in our 2017 survey.
Which? members can log in now to find out more about how it was rated, and to see which brands topped the table in our latest results. If you're not yet a member, you can get instant access by joining Which?.
You can see the full table of our latest results, including unmonitored brands such as ADT, Chubb and Yale, and find out how the brands relate to each other in our page on the best and worst burglar alarm brands.

Wireless alarms
Visonic sells two ranges of wireless alarms in the UK: PowerMaster and PowerMax. PowerMaster alarms use Visonic's PowerG technology, which it claims makes wireless alarms as reliable as wired systems, with stronger connections and the ability to be used in large premises.
Monitored alarm systems
Visonic also offers monitoring contracts (which you would need to pay for on top of the alarm) in addition to unmonitored or 'bells-only' alarms.
Its monitoring service has alarm verification to help determine what the issue is or whether it's a false alarm. For example, it can use a microphone on the alarm to listen in to the house when the alarm goes off.
You can buy and install these alarms through a regional UK Visonic representative, or local alarm companies – you can't install them yourself. Visit our page on choosing an alarm installer or company to help you know what to look for and the questions you should ask.
Smart alarms
Using the VisonicGo app, you can connect both of its alarms to your smartphone or tablet, so you can set and deactivate your alarm remotely and be alerted if it's triggered. This is the same for a number of dialler and smart alarms - visit our page on alarm types to find out more.
You can also buy key fobs, which enable you to set your alarm without needing to input a number,
Smoke alarms, wireless cameras and other home security
As well as the usual detectors that will trigger the alarm if someone enters the house, you can also buy detectors for fire, gas leaks or carbon monoxide. Some of Visonic's detectors also come with built-in cameras, to capture the intruder in the act.
There is also a panic alarm option with the PowerMaster alarms and some of the detectors on the PowerMax alarms have anti-masking technology, which means the alarm should be triggered if an intruder tires to cover the detector.
