Looking for a gift for your dad, grandpa or for a new father? We've got great picks starting from a tenner.
Dads can be notoriously tricky to buy for – many of our experts were initially stuck for ideas, too. While we'd always say that spending time with your old man is a great gift, we've also got you covered if you're looking for something extra.
Our picks include foodie gadgets, tasty whisky and fun extras for a day out.

My sister has one of these wine aerators and when my dad spotted it, he was very taken with what a simple gadget it was! I remember thinking at the time, 'right, that's his father's day gift sorted!'
We like: Speeds up wine aeration
Watch out for: Wine snobs
While you could pop the cork, let it sit for an hour to 'breathe' and then serve, this little gadget could expedite the process. The claim is that aerating wine can bring out more flavours or help it taste better.
It's simple to use: just hold it above the glass and pour the wine into the aerator where it has air drawn into it – then out the other end it goes. There's also a removable mesh to filter out sediment.

My dad loves a stroll so I got him a custom map with walks around my new home for when he comes to visit. You can choose between sizes and add your own routes as well as adding a personal image to the front.
We like: Personalised maps for dads who love a stroll
Watch out for: Frames cost extra
This is a fantastic gift if your dad is looking for some new walks or hikes. You can choose from popular routes, select an area from the Ordnance Survey's mapping of the UK or upload your own custom GPX (GPS exchange format) files – which means you create your own custom walking routes with online tools.
While paper maps cost under £22, a large canvas map in a frame will set you back at least £100.
You can start creating your custom map through the Ordnance Survey website.

Got one of these for my husband when our son first started to draw/write in school and he loves it! He calls it his 'designer one-of-a-kind' top.
We like: Great range of style options
Watch out for: You'll need a scan of what you want on the shirt
You could go for a generic run-of-the-mill shirt, or you could showcase an art style found nowhere else in the world – your kid's.
If you're willing to spend a bit extra, you can also have a jumper made. When you order, be sure you have a clear scan of what you want printed on the shirt. The higher quality the scan, the better it will look on the finished product.
You can pick up a shirt from sellers on sites like Etsy.
Many Dads love to grill in the summer but it's not just about the food, it's a time to share a culinary experience with family and loved ones.
We like: Lots of different tools included
Watch out for: Case is quite large
Tools are mostly associated with DIY, but all great grillmasters can do with a kit to cook up a feast. This stainless steel set from VonHaus includes just about anything you'll ever need.
The set comes with barbecue mats, six skewers, six corn forks, a basting brush, a cleaning brush with a spare head, tongs, a BBQ fork, a spatula (with an integrated bottle opener), salt and pepper shakers, and a thermometer. Luckily, all this gear can easily be stored in the robust carrying case.

A Scottish author once recommended it, and I've bought it for my dad ever since. I buy it on offer and then stash it so I can gift it later. He doesn't drink much, so this is a special occasion tipple for him.
We like: Classic Islay single malt
Watch out for: Not everyone likes a peaty flavour
Scotch whisky is a classic gift, and Laphroaig is among the most popular distillers in the UK. It's tasty enjoyed neat (straight up) or with a few chunks of ice.
Claimed tasting notes include seaweed and iodine, with a hint of salt and sweetness. Just know that Scotch tends to have a 'peaty' flavour, which might not be everyone's favourite.
If you're looking for a different bottle, why not take a look at our best premium gins to whip up some delicious cocktails?
You can pick up a bottle from Tesco (£30 with a Clubcard), The Whisky Exchange (£40.95), or compare prices below:

If your dad's (finally) going to fix those shelves they've been talking about fixing since last Father's Day - this drill is a solid tool to add to the box. It has a simple toggle switch to change settings, and with 24 torque settings it's very easy to control when sinking short and long screws.
We like: Affordable and lots of functionality
Watch out for: Batteries not always included
If you've got a long list of DIY jobs for dad to do, a new cordless drill will help make them a lot easier.
This model from Ryobi won't break the bank – you can typically get the tool for less than £80, although batteries will cost you a little more. It also has several functions, including drilling, hammer-drilling and screwdriver settings, and the battery can be swapped with other Ryobi ONE+ tools.
If you'd rather get him a different drill, read our reviews of the best cordless drills.

My father-in-law had to switch to decaff coffee so we bought him this grinder and a gourmet selection of decaff coffee beans. For a caffeine addict he's been converted and can enjoy his morning coffee again.
We like: Small and lightweight
Watch out for: Bean hopper isn't removable
If dad needs his morning cuppa, this grinder can be a great way to step up from instant coffee. This burr grinder can grind coffee beans for espresso and filter machines, or a cafetière.
He can choose between 17 settings for a coarser or finer grind. Just don't forget to pick up some packets of coffee beans, too!
Read our review in our guide to the best coffee grinders.
It's not just a two-in-one game, but it can also be a fun activity for him and the family to initially build it together.
We like: Comes with 'checkers', too
Watch out for: No storage for pieces
If he loves a game of chess, wants to teach the kids or has always wanted to learn – this is a fun twist on a typical chess set.
When not in use, it looks attractive as a display piece on a desk or shelf, and the board comes apart in half for easier storage.

Some beard trimmers come with many accessories and can feel a bit complex, even overengineered given the task is just cutting hair. Not the Braun Series 5. Its wheel for adjusting the cutting length is easy to use and the trim guards are easy to pop on and off.
We like: Excellent range of grooming attachments
Watch out for: Can create some mess while shaving
A good foil shaver can be a lot more convenient to use than razors and wet shaving cream when it comes to keeping groomed.
The shaver heads are flexible, so he shouldn't get any nicks while using it. Some kits come with a precision trimmer and a guard, so it can be used to trim other body areas.

I picked up a KVM switch to easily use my work and personal computers with the same monitors, mouse and keyboard. It might seem like a bizarre gift, but it's easily one of the most handy pieces of kit I've gotten in a long time. It's a WFH essential.
We like: Swapping computers with the push of a button
Watch out for: Initial setup is a bit finicky
It's not the most conventional gift, but this unassuming box lets you connect your computers to the same peripherals, such as a keyboard, webcam or mouse. It's incredibly handy if dad wants to use his monitors to work from home, but hates having to unplug cables to move to his personal computer.
This one can handle two monitors up to 4K resolution at 60Hz. You can connect up to four shared peripherals in the front, and there's a wired remote you can use instead of fishing for the front 'select' button.

A pair of sunglasses is a summer essential and can make a great Father's Day gift. I'm a big fan of trendy British optician Cubitts as you can choose your lens colour, frame and (if you need to) get your prescription built into a pair too.
We like: Wide variety of styles
Watch out for: Not the cheapest
A good pair of sunglasses will protect his eyes from the sun, make him look stylish and should last him years. Our experts were big fans of the sunglasses from Cubitts.
You can order them in a wide range of colours and styles, including colour options on the lenses. If he typically wears glasses, you can also order them with prescription lenses – it'll cost extra, though.
He can also 'try them on' online, using a mobile phone, before you commit to buying. In which case, you can print a gift certificate for Father's Day.
View the range of frames from Cubitts. Most cost £150.
Solidly built and with impressive force feedback, this was the perfect wheel to get me back into sim racing after a decades-long hiatus. It’s not the cheapest gift, but it’s often heavily discounted so keep your eyes peeled for a deal.
We like: Can attach directly to desk, or a separate racing rig
Watch out for: Stick shifter sold separately
There's nothing quite like a Sunday drive, but instead of guzzling gas, why not enjoy the experience at home with this racing wheel? He'll get a similar feeling to driving a car with wheels, paddle shifters and pedals.
It's a great gift for dads who love cars. Plus, given the way some folks drive – it's much safer, too.
