You can flick through the image gallery below to see a selection of the wood-burning stoves (also called log burners and wood burners), and multi-fuel stoves that Jotul sells.
Norwegian brand Jotul, which has been creating stoves for more than 160 years, predominantly sells modern-style stoves.
All of its stoves are made of cast iron, which holds heat for longer but is slower to heat up than steel, another material commonly used for stoves. Some are also internally clad in heat-retaining soapstone.
A number are designed to be standalone (see image below), as opposed to fitting into a fireplace, and many are available in white or brown as well as black. Jotul also specialises in inset stoves (sometimes called cassette) that can be built into the wall (you can see an example in the gallery).
Some also have cleanburn technology with closed combustion, which essentially means that air is introduced to the stove and circulated, helping to burn off more of the smoke and gases – making these types of stove more efficient and easier to control the fire.
As of 2022, EU regulations will stipulate that all newly manufactured stoves must meet higher efficiency levels. Some stoves are being made to these specifications now. These are called Ecodesign Ready.

Registering any safety appliance with the manufacturer is also useful if there is ever a recall or issue identified with the model. You may need to service the appliance yearly for the warranty to be valid, which is something we would recommend doing anyway. Our page on has more information.
Before you buy a stove, it's important to remember that a stove isn't something you can install yourself. It needs to meet regulations and be installed safely.
