We created 28 mortgage scenarios, based on typical loan amounts, term lengths and mortgage products, to reveal the lenders that consistently offer the best deals. Ranking first means the provider offered, on average, the cheapest mortgage deals during our analysis period. West Brom Building Society wasn't that competitive overall, but it stood out on rates for first-time buyers.'

A smaller number of mortgages offered by West Brom were discounted variable rate deals, with initial terms lasting two years before reverting to its standard variable rate.
