Five Best Buy washing machines uncovered

New best washing machine tops our test

The latest Which? testing has found five new Best Buy washing machines that you can rely on to lift stubborn stains from your laundry. We’ve also re-written every washing machine review on the website – find out why below.

We’ve got over twenty new washing machine reviews online, with models from top brands including Bosch, Hotpoint, Beko, Indesit, Hoover and more. Five have been deemed good enough to be Best Buys – and two are so bad at cleaning we’ve had to make them Don’t Buys.

We’ve tested a wide range of washing machines including cheap washing machines, washing machines for small, medium and large homes, and washing machines with special claims – like Haier’s antibacterial drum seal that claims to stop bacteria build-up.

Our tough testing shows you how well clothes are cleaned and rinsed, and how much will be added to your electricity bills, before you buy. To see how these new machines stack up, check out our washing machines reviews.

Champion cleaning washing machines

Our latest test has not only revealed five new Best Buy washing machines, but one of them is so good that it’s the leading washing machine on our site.

Scoring an incredible 80% in our tests, this is a washing machine you can count on to deliver top notch cleaning.

69%Running costs for the new top model fell by almost two thirds when we turned the temperature to 20°C

We’ve also done some extra tests on this machine and found that if you turn the temperature down to 20°C, cleaning is only partially affected while running costs fall by 69% – saving you some cash.

New reviews and cleaning standards

As the standard of washing machine technology has improved over recent years, we at Which? have increased our standards accordingly.

We’ve made it more difficult for a washing machine to get a four or five star rating in key tests like cleaning and rinsing. Making our tests tougher will mean we can continue to recommend only the top washing machines on the market as Best Buys.

But what is a ‘five star’ wash? To help illustrate the sort of cleaning power you can expect to get from different washing machines, we’ve produced some pictures showing just how much staining a poor, average and excellent wash will remove.

You can find this advice and more in our free how we test washing machine guide.

Don’t Buy these washing machines

As our tests have become tougher, we now have washing machines that fall far short of the new standards. Some washers have done so badly that we rate them as Don’t Buys and recommend that you avoid them.

To make sure your next washing machine is a tough stain-shifting Best Buy, and not a washer that leaves more dirt in your laundry than other machines, head to our washing machine reviews.
