Revealed: The cheapest and most expensive areas for home insurance

While best-known for its medieval cathedral and top university, Durham is also the cheapest place for home insurance in the UK, according to new data from MoneySupermarket.

Cities in the North of England offered the cheapest home insurance premiums, MoneySupermarket found.
In the city of Durham, people paid an average of just £117 a year to protect their homes.
The residents in Newcastle and Sunderland, who came joint second for the cheapest home insurance premiums, paid just one pound more at £118 a year.
Meanwhile, both Stoke-on-Trent and Darlington had average policies priced at £121.

The most expensive areas for home insurance
London dominated the list of locations where residents paid the most for home insurance.
Taking top spot as the most expensive area was North West London, where households paid an average of £251 a year to cover their properties. That's a staggering 114% more than the national average of £138.
Central and West London, which includes boroughs like the City of Westminster, Hammersmith and Fulham and the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea, came in second place, with average premiums at a hefty £249 a year.
