Auto Europe was launched as a specialist car hire broker for US travellers when visiting Europe but now serves more than 20,000 worldwide locations.
Which? verdict: Auto Europe is a reliable provider, which satisfies most of the time, but its customer service needs work
|Which? Recommended Provider||Clarity of extra charges||Clarity of fuel policy||Clarity of final hire cost||Customer service||Clarity of information about supplier||Overall satisfaction with car hire supplier||Customer score|
Auto Europe impressed customers, with a five-star rating for the clarity of fuel policy, clarity of final cost of hiring a car, as well as information about the car hire supplier.
In fact, it scored well all round, except for its average customer service score.
Some reported a decent service, but others were faced with unhelpful aftercare when they wanted to complain about car hire companies. One put it: ‘When the local rental car company behaves like a buccaneer, they should help, but they do not.’
Overall though it’s got a lot to offer. One Auto Europe user said: ‘Very clear options when it came to selecting a car class and supplier together with very competitive prices.'
Auto Europe users were also fans of the ‘clear’ website showing all the offers side by side.
Auto Europe does its job very well, but according to those surveyed this year, it still can’t quite compete with Zest, which outshines it on customer service.
Auto Europe offers a good all-round service with clear information on charges and pricing, and flexible cancellations. However, it needs to improve its customer service. Which? Recommended Provider still edges ahead.
