Travel giant Expedia is known for its flights and hotels, but it also sells car hire at thousands of locations worldwide.
Expedia appears in the bottom half of our table of brokers, and many customers told us that they weren’t satisfied with the company that provided their car hire. There are far better options available.

| Car hire broker | Which? Recommended Provider | Overall score |
|---|---|---|
| Expedia | No | 75% |
Overall score is a combination of the customer score (overall satisfaction and how likely people are to recommend the company) and our own expert analysis. Survey carried out in Feb/March 2026.
With a customer score of 75%, most customers were happy with their car hire experience with Expedia. However, it is still only in fifth place out of the seven brokers we compared. There are better options to book with.
It received just two stars out of five for overall satisfaction with the car provider, and an average three-star rating in key categories such as customer service and clarity of rental conditions.
One customer told us that using Expedia gave them 'no obvious added value. When the odd issue did arise, it was easier to deal directly with the rental company'. Another told us that Expedia ‘was more expensive and more trouble than it should be’.
Costing just £26 per day on average, Expedia is one of the cheapest brokers in our survey. However, the average three-star rating for additional charges is a concern. One customer gave us the following report: ‘There were a lot of problems when booking. They charged too much and took inappropriate payments, and no-one was willing to sort it out.’
If you do book with Expedia, don’t take its insurance, which received a poor 50% policy score in our assessment. See our reviews of the Best car hire insurance for alternatives.
Expedia offers a reasonable service with a wide range of vehicles and providers. However, middling customer service and a disappointing two-star satisfaction rating for the end provider is off-putting. Which? Recommended Provider Zest Car Rental is a safer option.
