Which? verdict on Ampower
Ampower is new to the energy market, and it's included in our energy companies survey results for the first time this year. But it didn’t get off to a good start, ranking among the worst suppliers included, based on the feedback of its customers.
Customers gave it a poor two-star rating for four of the six aspects of its service we asked them about.
This included customer service, which 16% of Ampower’s customers rated as either poor or very poor. In comparison, just 2% of customers of the best energy firm in our survey (Octopus) rated its customer service poor or very poor.
It took just 57 seconds on average to answer the phone when we called.
But even if customers can talk to an adviser quickly, our survey results suggest that they’re less happy with the experience as a whole.
When we emailed Ampower in the same investigation, it was among the faster companies to respond, taking less than two days to come back to us, on average.
Ampower doesn’t offer an app, and customers rated its digital tools two stars out of five. It got the same rating for the accuracy of its bills and how easy customers found them to understand.
Its best result was for complaints handling. Unlike similarly ranked rivals, Ampower gained a four-star rating for how it handles complaints. The top-ranked firms achieved five stars.
Ampower’s customers classed it as ‘fair’ value for money.
Pros: Quick to answer the phone in our snapshot investigation
Cons: Customers are unimpressed with customer service, bills and digital tools
