Our results are based on our regular broadband and pay-TV survey. Each year, we talk to customers to find out what they think of the service they receive. This means we're best placed to help you to choose the right service for you.
In January 2021, we surveyed 3,039 members of the public and asked them about their experiences with their broadband and pay TV provider. We report on all providers that have at least 40 respondents.
Sky is likely to be the first provider you think of when it comes to pay TV, and there’s no denying it has a unique offering, with more than 300 channels to choose between. Sky offers a number of customisable TV packages you can combine with its broadband and phone services. It's been the go-to TV provider for more than two decades, and the wide variety of channels on offer means there's something for everyone, from documentary and reality shows to live coverage of the latest sporting events.
Other TV perks include a selection of catch-up TV and on-demand content, plus access to a host of TV series that are shown exclusively on Sky Atlantic. There's also a Sky Go app that enables you to stream shows straight to a smartphone or tablet and, for Sky Q customers, the Sky Q app allows you to watch live or on-demand TV on your favourite device, allowing you to pause a show on your box and continue watching from your device.
Sky offers standard speed (average speed of 11Mbps) and fibre (average speed of 59bps) broadband packages. Customers in certain areas can also opt for Sky's ultrafast fibre deals, which have average speeds of 145Mbps and 500Mbps.
You don't need a fibre connection to get Sky TV as the channels are broadcast via satellite. However, you will need to have a satellite dish installed. Sky has announced plans to allow customers to watch Sky through a broadband connection, but for now most customers will still require a dish.
